What is the difference between private collectors and public drop-off points?

Public drop-off points

These are communal collection points ran by an administrator who collects specific types of waste for recycling. The locations are displayed on our map to allow communities to recycle together. Search for your nearest drop-off point, check the type of waste accepted there as well as the opening times and take your hard-to-recycle waste to the location.

Private collectors

Private collectors are also registered on specific programmes and usually gather waste that they have accumulated themselves at home. Please note, there are only a few programmes accepting private collectors. The steps to send TerraCycle the waste remain the same for both private collectors and public drop-off point administrators, but those running public schemes will be able to send a higher amount of waste. Remember, not only will you be having a greater impact on the environment by preventing more waste from going to landfill, but you will also earn more TerraCycle points that can be redeemed in to charity donations for non-profit organisations.
